New Update
Startups

Women-led startups are growing huge in our country. Recently, the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore joined hands with Goldman Sachs to launch a programme to mentor aspiring women who have zero entrepreneurial experience but are keen to set up their own ventures. Women could opt for the programme either online or in the classroom.

The initiative is named as 'The Women Startup Programme', and aims to train the women by mentoring them and giving them an incubation period to put their business together. While the best project would get support from experts, the programme would also cater to basics like helping the aspiring entrepreneurs think creative, and even help in initiating new ventures.

Those who want to join the training session don't have to pay a penny. All participants could enjoy free entry to the programme as Goldman Sachs is supporting its activities for a year. Eminent personalities in the list of mentors include Goldman Sachs (India) chairman Sonjoy Chatterjee as well as Bunty Bohra, chief executive of Goldman Sachs Services (India).

IIM-Bangalore's NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) has earlier pioneered several such women entrepreneurship programmes as it has been offering a management programme for female entrepreneurs since the last decade. However, since 2011, only those who have started a venture were allowed to join the programme.

"We felt there is a great need to start a new educational initiative to help women who would like to set up a startup. When a possibility to do so arose, with support from Goldman Sachs, we designed this new programme," said professor Suresh Bhagavatula, programme director and chairperson of NSRCEL, as reported by Economic Times.
