Vidisha Maitra's powerful speech against terrorism puts her in spotlight

Vidisha Maitra, First Secretary MEA was in the spotlight as she replied to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's UNGA address on Kashmir issue. The first secretary to MEA Vidisha Maitra asked if Islamabad would acknowledge that it is the "only government in the world that provides pension to an individual listed by the UN"."Will Pakistan acknowledge that it is the only government in the world that provides pension to an individual listed by the UN in the Al-Qaeda and Daesh sanctions list?" she asked.

Imran Khan on Friday had raised the Kashmir issue in his maiden address to the UN General Assembly and demanded that India must lift the 'inhuman curfew' in Kashmir and release all 'political prisoners'.

She said in her powerful speech:
1. Citizens of India do not need anyone else to speak on their behalf, least of all those who have built an industry of terrorism from the ideology of hate.
2. The mainstreaming of Jammu & Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, in India’s thriving and vibrant democracy with a millennia-old heritage of diversity, pluralism and tolerance is well and truly underway. Irreversibly so.

Imran Khan had said, "India ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, flouting 11 resolutions of the UN Security Council, Simla agreement and its own Constitution. 'What is the world community going to do. Is it going to appease a market of 1.2 billion, or is it going to stand up for justice and humanity,' the Pakistani prime minister said."
