sonia gandhi offers to resign, congress leadership crisis

Congress President Sonia Gandhi may have offered to resign from the party amidst demands of ‘full time’ leadership from other members of the Indian National Congress as per media agencies. According to multiple reports, this came after 20 top Congress leaders sought ‘full time leadership’ through a detailed letter. The letter praised the Gandhis for their work for the party but also asked for a more public and full time leader. The Congress party, formed 135 years in 1885, has been facing an internal crisis in this past few years with many leaders either leaving the party or calling out the Gandhis for lack of leadership. The party plans to have a detailed meeting on the matter in the coming week. The signatories to the letter include Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad; party MPs and former Union Ministers Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor among others.
