Usha Bharti, a 23-year-old woman from Delhi is nine months pregnant and two days ago she found out that she is COVID-19 positive. She has no one from her family to take care of her or to attend to her. Her relatives can't come to her aid because of the lockdown and her husband has tested positive for coronavirus too and has been hospitalized since. And yet Bharti hasn't succumbed to despair. In fact she has no fear or resentment in her heart "but gratitude" for the staff at the hospital where she is being treated.

Bharti has been a housewife since she got married to 28-year-old Raju in 2017. Raju works in the Outpatient Department of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in the Jahangirpuri area. However, Raju along with 43 other workers from the hospital tested positive for coronavirus and had to be admitted in AIIMS hospital. A few days later, as is the normal course of action, those who were in contact with the patients were also tested and that's how Bharti got to know that she has also contracted the disease.

23-year-old Usha from Delhi is nine months pregnant and two days ago she found out that she is COVID-19 positive.

"I didn't waste any time thinking too much since my test was done at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, I decided to start my treatment there and since I am due in another week, I wanted to be in the hospital so if my water breaks, there is someone to take care of me. However, I was stranded outside RML hospital in their ambulance for three to four hours on Tuesday night, waiting to be taken in but that didn't happen," Bharti narrates the incident to SheThePeople.

She continues, "I believe my husband who was constantly in touch with me shared my number with a few people and suddenly I received a call around 12.30 a.m. and was asked to be taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. Today (Wednesday) I woke up feeling nothing but gratitude."

For a woman who is literally facing a deadly disease to feel gratitude is nothing but an example of immense courage. On asking if she feels scared for her own health or that of her baby's, she casually says that she doesn't. "Doctors and nurses here are looking after me very well and they tell me that my child will not contract this disease from me. They also tell me that I will be completely alright so I don't fear the disease at all. I feel a bit feverish but not at all nervous," says Bharti confidently.

Due to the lockdown, Bharti and Raju's family who live in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar cannot visit her. This is the only regret Bharti had when she felt alone in the ambulance. Now that she has overcome that struggle, Bharti is only looking at the brighter side of life and so are we. We hope Bharti tests negative soon and gives birth to a healthy child. Her courage and bravado will remind us of the incredible strength women show in the face of adversity.
