Oscars 2020 have been announced amidst a star-studded gala event, that took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Here are the women winners who stole the show at Oscars 2020.

Best Actress

Renée Zellweger bagged the award in for Best Actress at the 92nd Academy Awards for her role as Judy Garland in the biopic of the singer and movie star. Zellweger was a favourite for the award despite facing competition from Saoirse Ronan (Little Women), Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Charlize Theron (Bombshell) and Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story).

Best Supporting Actress

Laura Dern bagged the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Marriage Story.  During her acceptance speech, she said that it was the best birthday present ever. She turns 53 today.

Dern received her first Oscar nod in 1992 for Best Actress in Rambling Rose. She was also nominated in 2015 for Best Supporting Actress (for the film Wild). Dern has been a favorite in this category this entire awards season, winning a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Awards for her role in the Noah Baumbach film.

Documentary short feature

The Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) went to 'Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're A Girl)'.

Director Carol Dysinger and producer Elena Andreicheva accepted the award from presenter Mark Ruffalo. This is not the first time she has won an award. She won a student Academy Award in 1977 and it was handed to her back then by Frank Capra.

'Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're A Girl)' is a story of young Afghan girls learning to read, write and skateboard in Kabul. The film follows a class of girls at Skateistan, a nonprofit that began as a skate school in Kabul in 2007 and grew into a multinational educational initiative.

Best Original Score

Hildur Gudnadottir scripted history by becoming the first woman to win an Oscar for the Best Original Score in 23 years, and only the fourth woman to win an award in this category, for Joker. According to a CNN report, she is the first woman ever to win in the category of Best Original Score since the year 2000, when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences combined all of the score categories into one.

"To the girls, to the women, to the mothers, to the daughters, who hear the music bubbling within, please speak up," said she in her acceptance speech, which is being hailed as one of the best speeches of the night.

The past few months have been special for Gudnadottir, who also picked up an Emmy and a Grammy recently.

Documentary feature

American Factory, a film backed by the Obamas' Higher Ground Productions, on Sunday took home the award for Best Documentary Feature. Filmmakers Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar collected their award for the film that was released through Netflix.

Best costume design

Jacqueline Durran, Little WomanThis win marks Durran’s second Oscar after she won in 2012 for the Joe Wright-directed film, Anna Karenina. She also recently picked up a BAFTA

“I’m indebted to a lot of people,” Durran said while accepting her award. She mentioned the film’s team including the cast and producer Amy Pascal and her family for enabling her “to be a working mother.”
