Despite Richa Chadha winning a defamation suit against her, Payal Ghosh has refused to publicly apologise to the actor. The Bombay High Court had directed Ghosh to offer and “unconditional apology” to Chadha for allegedly making “derogatory statements” against her in an interview. However later, Ghosh took to her Twitter account and wrote, “I am not apologizing to anyone. I have not wronged nor have I given a wrong statement about anyone.” Ghosh, however, went on to say that she had just said what filmmaker Anurag Kashyap told her.

In response, late on Thursday, Richa Chadha shared a copy of the Bombay High Court order, writing that she had “won”. The Fukrey star had highlighted the statements of Ghosh’s lawyer in her post, and wrote, “WE WON! Satyamev Jayate! Grateful to the Hon. Bombay High Court for justice ! The order is now in public record, freely available for all on the High Court website. Thank you for your support, next hearing (for settlement) is on the 12th as is mentioned in the order.”

Reportedly, Ghosh’s lawyer had earlier stated that she will also be withdrawing her previous statement against Chadha to settle this matter. But she is now refusing to do so. On the second sheet of the court order, underlined words read: “withdrawing her statements” and “an unconditional apology”.

Chadha recently took to Twitter to share pictures of Payal Ghosh posing with NCW chief Rekha Sharma. In the post, she tagged the National Commission for Women and mentioned about the complaint that she had filed with the organisation against Ghosh, for “falsely dragging her name” in a case against a director. Chadha further added that she had filed the complaint on 29 September 2020, before Ghosh did.

Richa Chadha case

Richa Chadha sought interim and permanent relief against Ghosh, who in September had accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual assault and mentioned her name in interviews while talking about the alleged incident, according to a report by Live Law. Ghosh had further alleged that other Bollywood actresses had also experienced the same with Kashyap.

Payal Ghosh, in an interview with ABN Telugu went on to say, “I went to meet him (Anurag Kashyap) and the next day when he took me to the other room, he opened his zip and tried to force his c**k inside my v****a by opening nada of my salwar kameez. He said it was okay and all the actresses who worked with him such as Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha, Mahi Gill, they are just a call away.”

In response, Chadha sought an order from the Bombay High Court for restraining Ghosh from making such statements or “using her name in any defamatory manner whatsoever, in relation to any disputes between Ghosh and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.’’ She has also sought the withdrawal of such videos and tweets, besides demanding an apology on Twitter and other websites.

Reportedly, Chadha had also told the court that the loss to her “reputation’’ is “irreparable’’ and “continuous’’ as she had “suffered tremendous humiliation and stress’’ and hence she had craved leave of the court to increase the damages later if required. She had however said that the “quantum of damages’’ may be increased due to “continue effects’’ of the “defamatory acts.’’

Chadha found support from her fellow Bollywood actresses including Swara Bhasker and Huma Qureshi, whose name was also mentioned by Ghosh in her earlier statement.
