Patty Jenkins Bashes Oscars 2023

In an interview with Variety, Wonder Woman's director, Patty Jenkins, expressed her disgust with the Academy Awards. She remarked, "I say that even with all of their push for diversity. Jenkins carried on, saying, "Simply put, the distribution of voters for these issues is wildly unbalanced. I guess I just stopped paying attention to it. There is still a great distance to travel. Much more work will be necessary if we are to truly see more diverse awards. She criticizes them, however, for making older men the majority of voters in 2019. Men continue to hold a disproportionate amount of power in Hollywood, according to a survey that was conducted previously."

According to a report in CBR, there have only ever been seven women nominated for Best Director at the Oscars. The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow became the first female to win the award in 2010, according to sources, and Chloe Zhao for Nomadland was the next recipient. The ceremony was first held in 1929. Zhao was also the first Asian woman to be nominated for the award in that particular category. Patty Jenkins, who became the first female director of an American studio superhero film, broke the glass ceiling just like Chloe did.

The audience was very complimentary of Patty Jenkins' direction of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. The pair reunited for Wonder Woman 1984, but sadly, it didn't have the same magic as its predecessor. DC Studios canceled the third installment of the movie in light of the most recent development.
