The movie Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom also received a nomination for Makeup and Hairstyling along with Production Design. In total the film received 5 nominations.

At the age of 89, the costume designer Ann Roth ties for the record for oldest Academy Award nominee. During her nearly 70 years long career, she has won the Tony, is an Emmy-nominated designer, and is a five-time Oscar nominee. In 1997 she was awarded for her work on The English Patient and was also a nominee for her costumes in The Hours in 2003, The Talented Mr Ripley in 2000, and Places in the Heart in 1985.

Roth ties for the record of oldest Academy Award nominee with screenwriter James Ivory and the late Agnès Varda who were both also 89 years of age when they were nominated for the Academy Awards in 2018. Ivory became the oldest Oscar winner ever when he was awarded for his work in Call Me By Your Name and received the Adapted Screenplay award.

Roth’s credits also include Mamma Mia!, The World According to Garp, Working Girl, 9 to 5, Midnight Cowboy and Dressed to Kill. Her work will be appearing in the upcoming adaption of Wicked and the series Humans which will be directed by Stephen Karam. The winners for the 93rd Academy Awards will be announced on April 25.
