Kangana Ranaut Remembers J Jayalalithaa On Her Death Anniversary, Shares Pictures From Thalaivi Sets

Thalaivi Teaser Out, Kangana Ranaut tribute Jayalalithaa

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who is essaying the role of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the upcoming biopic Thalaivi, took to social media on Saturday to pay tribute to the leader on her death anniversary. She shared a couple of pictures dressed in white-coloured cotton saree with a bindi (known to be Jayalalithaa’s signature look) from her upcoming movie, Today marks the late actor-turned-politician’s fourth death anniversary. She passed away 5 December 2016.

Sharing the pictures, Ranaut wrote in her tweet, “On the death anniversary of Jaya Amma, sharing some working stills from our film Thalaivi- the revolutionary leader. All thanks to my team, especially the leader of our team Vijay sir who is working like a super human to complete the film, just one more week to go.”

The Judgementall Hai Kya actress had earlier revealed that for Thalaivi, she had to go through a huge transformation to bring the leader alive onscreen. She reportedly gained 20 kgs to step into the shoes of Jayalalithaa. Recently, Ranaut had shared how her weight gain for the project and how learning Bharatnatyam for her role left her back severely damaged. She had also revealed that she was struggling to lose the extra kilos. “I played the first super humangirl on Indian screen, thanks to my body a rare combination of dainty yet strong looking, in my 30’s I had to gain 20 kgs for ‘Thalaivi’ and do Bharatnatyam, it left my back severely damaged but no bigger gratification than to play a role to perfection,” Ranaut tweeted.

“Journey back to my fit body wasn’t easy, I feel good but even in seven months not able to achieve my earlier stamina and agility back and those last 5 kgs aren’t budging, there are moments of despair and then my director Vijay sir shows me ‘Thalaivi’ footage and all seems fine,” she added.

Talking about playing a legendary leader like Jayalalithaa on screen, Ranaut had earlier said, “After Manikarnika, this is my second biopic, and I am honored to portray such a strong lady. Her personality was very different from anything I have portrayed earlier. It’s very gratifying to play someone who was so determined, persevered but had a silent strength which distinguished her from everyone else.”

Ranaut was last seen in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, a biopic on freedom fighter Rani Laxmibai. Thalaivi is scheduled to release soon. Check out the film’s first look here:
