Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Gangubai Kathiawadi was a massive hit when it was released on February 25, 2022. The credit to its success mainly goes to the inspiring story of brothel owner Gangubai and the phenomenal acting of Alia Bhatt who brought life to the character on screen. The main heroes of the success were supported by a great cast, good story writing and awesome production. The first film to cross the 100 crore mark in 2022, Gangubai Kathiawadi is all ready to release on OTT.

The movie is based on S. Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens Of Mumbai. The story features the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad, Gangubaj Harjivandas, who came to Mumbai to pursue her ambition of becoming an actor. She ran away from home with her lover who sold her to a brothel in Mumbai for Rs. 500. Now trapped in the red light area of a big, unknown city, Gangu had to deal with what came her way as she had nowhere to go.

Years of struggle and torture, she becomes a brothel owner in Mumbai and decides to change the life of other brothel workers and their children so that they don't end up in this darkness. She becomes a public figure, giving speeches and talking about the respect and rights of brothel workers and their children. Alia Bhatt's portrayal of Gangubai was praised by everyone and the movie smashed box office record with a commendable earning of Rs. 166 crores.

On April 2022, Netflix India released a Twitter announcement with Gangubai Kathiawadi teaser attached to it. The announcement said that the movie will release on Netflix on April 26, 2022. The caption read, "Chilla chilla ke sabko bata do, aarahi hai Gangu #GangubaiKathiawadi is arriving on April 26th". Finally, the wait of the audience is over and the critically acclaimed movie will be available for online streaming on Netflix your home screens.
