Actor Shikha Malhotra, who was hospitalised after suffering a major stroke earlier this month, revealed that she is "recovering" but the process is extremely slow. Initially, she didn’t show any signs of improvement at all after she suffered a stroke and paralysis on the right side of her body. Malhotra was then shifted to Parel’s KEM Hospital on December 12 from Juhu's Cooper Hospital. “My health is improving but the process is slow. I’m not sure when I will be able to walk again,” the actor recently said in an interview.

Talking to Navbharat Times, Malhotra, who was volunteering as a nurse at a hospital in Mumbai and helping coronavirus patients, said, “I am helpless with my body but my heart gets elated when I think of my film Kaanchli in which I have played the lead role.” Malhotra will star alongside Sanjay Mishra in the film Kaanchli: Life in a Slough.

She further added, “However, not many people are aware of its release. I am going through a tough phase in my life and I need everyone’s support. I am passionate about my work and I just need a little push from the audience."

Malhotra tested positive for COVID-19 in October. After the lockdown began, the actress started volunteering as a patient counsellor at a BMC-run trauma hospital in Jogeshwari, Mumbai.

Malhotra pursued a degree in nursing from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital in 2014. She chose a career in acting after that. Talking about taking up the profession of nursing, the actor had said then that she was inspired by her mother, who is also a frontline worker.

The actor who starred in Shah Rukh Khan’s film Fan (2017), had also urged medical graduates to join in the fight. “I decided to help COVID-19 patients as I have the tool to help them,” Shikha had earlier said in an Instagram post.

In March, Malhotra had announced, “For those who don’t know that I am a #Registered #BscHonoursNurse from Vardhaman Mahavir Medical and #SafdarjungHospital Spending my five years. So as you all have always appreciated my efforts my achievements this time need all of your support to #serve the #nation once again and this time I’ve decided to join the hospital in #mumbai for #covid19 #crisis. Always there to serve the country as a #Nurse as a #entertainer wherever however I can need your blessings please be at home be safe and support the government.”
