The teaser trailer for Netflix’s Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock Holmes’ sister, has been released. And looks like the film has already started leaving cryptic clues to engage with the audience. In a tweet from the NX on Netflix account, there appeared a mysterious code- “alone loshme reeebtpms wnettyrhitd”, accompanied by a 20-second teaser for the film. There was no mention of any release date in the teaser either, instead, there again appeared a jumbled string of words on-screen.

Fortunately, it didn't take fans very long to crack the code. After figuring out that the code is an anagram, they started to unscramble each word. Lo and behold, the mystery was cracked! The decoded message read: "Enola Holmes September Twenty-Third." While Netflix has neither confirmed nor denied the date, the letters in its tweet couldn't come out to say anything else as per fans.

About the Film

Enola Holmes will be putting a twist on the Sherlock Holmes universe by focussing on the sister of the notorious detective. Enola, played by Stranger Things fame Millie Bobby Brown, is much younger than her two older brothers but no less gifted. The film is based on the book The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer. From what we know, in this instalment, Enola will be on a one-woman-mission to find her missing mother, played by Helena Bonham Carter. According to Netflix, “Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history.” The film will have Henry Cavill playing Sherlock while Sam Claflin fills the role of Mycroft Holmes. And if this stellar cast wasn’t enough, the screenplay for the film has been written by Jack Throne, whose credits range from Harry Potter and The Cursed Child to The Aeronauts, while the Emmy-winning Fleabag director Harry Bradbeer is in the director’s chair.

In an interview, Bradbeer said about the film: “There was the fact that there was a sister that people probably hadn’t considered existed. That automatically brings the whole feminist stance and a feminist angle on the Holmes story, which was particularly interesting to me, as Holmes was thought of as being someone who was a little bit of a misogynist.” He added, “What we liked about this version was that it was untraditional due to the nature of who the story is about. This isn’t a Sherlock Holmes movie. This is an Enola Holmes movie. And in this case, he’s actually with another pea in the pod, if you will, and you see a lot more warmth, kindness, and a humanity to Sherlock,” he continued.

The Teaser

The short teaser clip gives us a glimpse at Enola Holmes' many characters, including Sherlock himself. It doesn’t give much away about the movie’s plot, instead focusing on the big question of “Who is Enola?” It also gives viewers a taste of the movie’s playful tone, as well as hinting at a fourth-wall-breaking convention in the teaser’s last few seconds, when we get the first proper look at Brown as Enola turning to the camera with a cheeky greeting. Presumably, a longer trailer will follow in the coming weeks, but for now, the teaser is quite a fun introduction to the character. You can see it for yourself down below.
