Actor  Natalie Desselle Reid, known for her role in the 1997 film B.A.P.S passed away on Monday after a battle with colon cancer. The news about Reid's demise was shared through a message posted on the actor's Instagram page. She was 53 years old.

The statement by her family remembered Reid as "a bright light in this world. A queen. An extraordinary mother and wife." It further added, "Her diverse career touched so many and she will be loved forever. Naturally, we are grieving and processing this profound loss and we thank you in advance for respecting our privacy at this extremely difficult time."

Oscar-winning actor Halle Berry, who worked alongside Ried in B.A.P.S wrote on Twitter that she was still "processing this devastating news." Writing about her equation with the late actor, Berry wrote, "With her I laughed harder than I'd ever laughed before. She showed us it was ok to be goofy and funny while still being sincere and extraordinarily kind. "

Reid was also known for her work in the sitcom Eve and films such as Madea’s Big Happy Family, Set It Off and How to Be a Player.
