Serena Williams is calling out sexism in tennis and how. At the crucial final of the US Open she and the umpire had a heated blow out over Williams 'abusing' on court. The 23 time Grand Slam winner said sport continued to be sexist and that she was often at the receiving end of such behaviour.

During the final match Williams was given a series of code violations which many sportstars contested were 'serious'. The umpire first called Williams out for coaching, where he said Williams coach was signalling to the tennis player from the side. Then when Williams lost a point and smashed her racquet she received a penalty point. Given this was a critical tournament for Williams, she was visibly emotional and charged up. At a moment when the tennis player abused and the umpire picked on her again, she took him on.

Serena Williams urged the crowd to not boo and celebrate Osaka's win

"You stole a point from me and you are a thief," Williams said to the umpire prompting the game penalty ruling.

In what was a fantastic match, Japan's Naomi Osaka beat Williams in a Grand Slam showdown. During the ceremony, Serena Williams urged the crowd to not boo and celebrate Osaka's win. In the press conference, Williams called out the sexism in sport and said if a man had abused on the court, he would never have got a penalty.  Andy Roddick tweeted he had regrettably said worse and never got a penalty for it. Billie Jean King, tennis superstar and equal rights activist agreed with Williams about the sexism in tennis.

"You stole a point from me and you are a thief," Williams said to the umpire

"When a woman is emotional, she is 'hysterical' and she is penalised for it. When a man does the same he is outspoken and there are no repercussions," King said on Twitter.
