About hundreds of Hindi films either start with a wedding or end with a wedding. If none of those, it mostly has a wedding somewhere in the middle of the plot. If the focus is not entirely on logic, the drama quotient is enough for the viewers. The dreamy wedding locations, mouth-watering menu, traditional outfits and so many others are the star of a typical Indian wedding and a full-fledged family drama. For people like me who did not get an invite to any wedding this year, Bollywood is there.  Here is a list of films with not just a wedding scene to have the actors shake their legs but with plots heavily dependent on the weddings.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

The film is probably the story of opposites attract. The lead characters Rocky and Rani manage to overcome all their difference, but the problem is Rocky and Rani's families, and that becomes the centre plot of the film. Ranveer Singh portrays Rocky and Alia Bhatt poses as Rani in the film. It also includes veteran actors Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury, and Churni Ganguly.

Queen:

This Kangana Ranaut starrer starts with a typical Indian wedding and thankfully does not end with one. The protagonist is ready to do anything to get married to the man of her dreams but he has some other plans so he cancels the wedding. The heartbroken bride then wallows in pain for some time but then decides to take her honeymoon trip, alone. That is when she finds herself and gives an important lesson to girls who were raised with the idea of their wedding being the most important event of their lives that life is beyond that.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar play the role of a ">couple deeply in love with each other and almost restless to get married. Due to unforeseen circumstances, more like biological circumstances, the couple hits a rough patch right before their wedding day and the sweet lovestory turns into a comedic one. Khurrana's character deals with the idea of toxic masculinity where he has to always 'perform' in bed to be a man and Pednekar's character being a woman is blamed for his inability to that. All is well in the end they both accept that somethings cannot be forced.

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana:

This Kriti Kharbanda and Rajkummar Rao starrer gives a big lesson in the male ego or at least the appearance of it. Kharbanda's character flees her home on her wedding night leaving the groom (Rajkummar Rao) alone at the mandap and decides to take a government job she had always dreamt of. The male lead then takes it to his heart and works hard to get to a position higher than the female lead. He ignores her, makes her feel small and with time learns to forgive her.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti:

Saqib Saleem, Ram Kapoor, and Rhea Chakraborty got starred in this comedy film which would be nothing without the wedding in the film. Saleem's character gets caught in an unavoidable circumstance and ends up losing his father's Maruti car which he bought as a gift for Saleem's sister for her wedding. One of the most peculiar wedding preparations runs in the backdrop while the protagonist handles the situation and the audience gets a cinematic treat tossing and turning with laughter on their seats.

Band Baaja Baraat:

One of the most fun films of its time has Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma as their lead cast. The two characters decide to open a wedding planning firm through which they get closer to each other only to get far apart at one point. The film not only gives its colourful take on Indian weddings but also makes it impossible to notice how our society thinks of weddings as the most auspicious day to flaunt their social status, their money, love and everything in between.

To think of Bollywood films based on weddings, the list is a never ending one. From Vivah, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Shaandaar, Dolly Ki Doli and the recent ones like Meenakshi Sundareshwar, Hum Do Hamare Do among many others. For the audience which loves a good tears-inducing wedding scene, Bollywood barely disappoints.
