Rama Shankar, a 35-year-old resident of Rohini in Delhi murdered his relative Kalawati on Friday night. He called the police and confessed to the murder on Saturday afternoon. Shankar confessed to the police on Saturday afternoon that he killed his brother's wife because of her modern outlook which brought shame to the family's honour. Police have found a dismembered body of a woman with her head and hands chopped off in an abandoned park in Rohini Sector 24.

The cops took Kalawati’s daughter, Sanjana, to identify the body. She recognized it with a flower-shaped tattoo on the body’s right wrist.

It is a murder in cold blood. He killed her by chopping off her body parts. Then left the body in the park, bundled up her head, hands and the knife used to cut her and threw it all in a tempo crossing by.

Kalawati had a love marriage with Fugi Lal (33) and they had three children together—two daughters, Sanjana (17), Mannu (15), Sarita (12) and son Armaan (10). The family moved to Delhi two years ago from Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh for better livelihood. A resident of the Shyam Colony in outer Delhi’s Budh Vihar phase-2, Kalawati stayed in of a rented room and ran a small cosmetics shop back home. In the city, she worked at a manufacturing unit. She was financially independent and looked after her children’s education. Her husband works an e-rickshaw driver.

Her daughter Sanjana reveals to the Police that her paternal uncle always created problems for the family and interfered in their lives.

“Bade papa was jealous of us as our family was earning more than him. He did not like it and even demanded Rs 1 lakh from my mother. When she refused, he threatened her. It scared my mother and she cried a lot."- Kalawati's daughter, Sanjana

She did not want dad to come in harm’s way,” Sanjana said, the Hindustan Times reported.

She added that Shankar created a ruckus whenever he caught Kalawati coming home late from work or talking to her colleagues.

“My mother was scared that he might harm her physically. She shared her worries with me. I had told her that uncle wouldn’t dare to harm her with us being around,” recalls Sanjana.

On Friday, Kalawati woke up early as usual, cooked meals for her family, packed some food for herself. She left for work at 10am like every day but when she did not return home till midnight, the family panicked.

Sanjana informed that she called her mother several times through the night. “Her phone was not reachable. I and my father went to the police station in the morning to file an FIR. And they informed us about her death a few hours later,” she said.
