Priyanka Chopra has become a veteran if we can say so, as far as the Met Gala event goes. She has appeared for the third year running. And each year she has outdone herself. We know she takes the event seriously because she puts in a lot of effort into her look every year. The brightest film stars, popular musicians, sports personalities and social media sensations turn up in their innovative and experimental outfits and show their wild side at Met Gala every year. So naturally Chopra has to be at the top of her fashion game.
Styled by Mimi Cuttrell, this year too Priyanka turned up in a Dior gown, jewels by Chopard and a dramatic 'cagey' crown. This was Priyanka’s interpretation of “Camp: Notes on Fashion” the theme for this year’s gala. Her effort didn’t go unnoticed; she was greeted with a massive applause, and soon we got to know that she had wowed the biggest fashion pundits and connoisseurs alike. Her husband Nick Jonas, walked beside her in a white suit complementing her look for the day.

The Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. Each year they put out a theme and the stars attending the event have to interpret it through their dressing. The theme for this year was Camp: Notes in Fashion, inspired by a seminal 1964 essay by Susan Sontag in which she describes the phenomenon as something that shall not be talked about: “To talk about Camp is therefore to betray it”. In simpler words, it’s all about being a little extra, a little over the top. “Camp is by nature subversive, confronting and challenging the status quo,” the Costume Institute’s head curator Andrew Bolton said at a press event about the exhibition before the gala. The theme definitely gave the stars freedom to experiment. And experiment they did. Lady Gaga’s four outfit changes, Jared Leto’s fake severed head and Katy Perry’s chandelier outfit were some of the the highlights.

But back home it was a different story altogether, as our desi twitterati just couldn't relate to the theme of our desi girl's outfit. Her look did not stop netizens from taking pot shots at her and creating hilarious memes no sooner she appeared on the pink carpet for this year’s most talked about event.
Met Gala is meant to be quirky, outlandish and innovative. If some of us do not understand 'innovative and experimental' haute couture, then we should leave the interpretation to experts and not display our ignorance.

But what we thought was this...she nailed it! She nailed the theme and had the guts and confidence to carry it off.

While everyone is free to comment on anyone, what I did not like was how the comments became personal. Some again brought up the age difference between her and Nick. However, nobody batted an eyelid when Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor became a couple. Alia is younger, much younger to Ranbir and people are okay with it. I wonder why? And what is it wrong if the wife is older than the husband? But they didn't stop just there and went on to comment on her her lips, her makeup, her hair. Social media dubbed her as Mad Hatter – a character from ‘Alice In Wonderland’, 'Son Pari to Kali Pari', a ‘witch.' Something she did not deserve.
