Read a book

Devour a paperback, discover a world without actually stepping out of your house, or even your room. Books carry lessons, experiences, and anecdotes that are both stimulating and relaxing. There is no better way than to unwind with a book.

Pamper yourself

Apply a face mask and sit on the bean bag. Relax for a bit. Try that hairstyle or DIY make-up tutorial, that you always wanted to. Give yourself a manicure and pedicure at home, there are enough YouTube tutorials if you have the will and patience to follow through.

Take a nap

When in doubt, nap it out! A stressed mind can be decluttered with just about a 30-45 minute-long nap in the afternoon. Napping also helps you recharge yourself for the remaining day. There are chores to be taken care of, assignments that won't write themselves. So a little pause goes a long way in powering through hectic evenings.

Unplug social media

The world of likes, shares and comments can take a toll on our mental well-being. Contrary to what others may have to say, constantly networking can be a taxing task and everyone needs a break from watching others live their life. Just log out of Instagram and Facebook to get back to the real world. Instead of incessant scrolling and cribbing about how your life isn't like your friends', take a break and have a cup of tea in solitude, or chat offline with siblings and friends.

Watch a movie

I've always been a film freak. Watching a movie, thus, has always been a getaway for me. It is a great stress-buster and it distracts for a while from the harsh realities of life. Often when revisiting an old film you encounter things you hadn't noticed earlier and suddenly that changes your entire perception about it. Besides watching something that you have seen already is not taxing on the brain and thus very relaxing. So sit on the sofa and watch a favorite film of yours, that you know will bring a smile to your face, even if it is for the hundredth time.

Treat yourself

So you have been dieting rigorously to get that summer body, but everyone deserves a break. Ditch the leafy greens and dedicate a day to your taste buds. Eat an extra scoop of ice-cream or savour some hot chocolate or bake yourself a pizza. Keep in mind that there is more to self-care than "looking good". It is also about being happy. And if food makes you happy, then surely you can afford to have a cheat day.

Make a journal

A journal can be your place to vent out or to speel out the thoughts that you would rather not share with anyone. And if you're crafty enough, stick those patterned sheets and write what you feel. Writing is probably one of the best ways to drain all the emotional baggage that we tend to carry. Nothing and no one can hear you better than that blank page.

Indulge in a hobby

Think of what you love to do. If drawing caricatures brings you pleasure, take out your sketchbook and draw whatever comes to your mind. Grab that guitar lying in the corner of your room and learn a new track. Close the door of your room and sing at the top of your voice. The catch is to just do something that makes your heart happier and soul lighter.

Sit idle

We do not have to be productive all the time. It's fine to just sit idle and do nothing. Take life at your own pace. Go and relax in that comfortable chair in the verandah. Introspect and reconnect with your soul.
