Bangla Women Cricketers Win Cash Reward For Asia Cup Triumph

Bangladesh women's cricket team did something unimaginable. They notched up their maiden international win over India after a team led by Harmanpreet Kaur failed to showcase consistent batting performance. The Bangladesh women won the match by seven wickets in the Women's Asia Cup T20 on June 7.

Recognizing the brilliant performance, the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday (June 11), announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore as prize money to the triumphant national women's team.

The victorious team has scripted history by winning their maiden trophy by beating six-time champion India

"I cannot describe, in words, the joy we had on seeing them perform in this manner," BCB President Nazmul Hasan said, Cricbuzz reported. "They had worked really hard and their effort needs to be recognized. So we have decided to distribute Taka 2 Crores as prize money for the team," he said.

The prize will generate a huge financial boost for the women cricketers. "Naturally it is a big incentive," Salma Khatun told reporters. "It will not only boost our image, but this kind of recognition will help the development of women's cricket in the country."

The Indian women’s cricket team  failed to lift the trophy, losing it to Bangladesh by three wickets. Bangladesh, on the other hand, won the first international game against India

Following the overwhelming final, Biren Sikder, Bangladesh minister for youth and sports, has promised to create a dedicated academy for the women's team. "We are proud with their performance," said Biren. "We would create a dedicated academy for the women cricketers."

Former India cricketer Anju Jain, a wicketkeeper, took over as Bangladesh coach on May 21. She replaced former England all-rounder David Capel

"Joining Bangladesh was a fast-tracked move. The team was in bad shape and I was only looking to boost their morale," Anju Jain was quoted as saying by TOI.
