Want to take up writing professionally, but don't know where to begin? At SheThePeople.TV's Women Writers’ Fest Bangalore 2018, you will get all that you need to know about ideas and opportunities. So what does the WWF have in store this year? Apart from powerpacked panellists from across genres, the day-long festival on September 1 features new ground in content, style, and storytelling.
The Women Writers’ Festival will focus on female creativity and artistic achievements while discovering some of the best contemporary women authors across in India.
Panel discussions will be led by illustrious names from the writer fraternity, both from the world of fiction and non-fiction writing. They include Shinie Antony, Jahnavi Barua, Shaili Chopra, Kiran Manral, Shvetha Jaishankar, Nandita Bose, Keerti Ramchandran, Milan Vohra, Archana Doshi, Monika Manchanda, Shrabonti Bagchi and Ruth D’souza Prabhu.
Discussions will centre around gender roles in the digital age, women and education, women writing humour etc.

Looking for a diverse discussion
According to Shonali Advani, an independent consultant and festival curator, "The second edition of the Women Writers Festival in Bengaluru comes to the city with a stronger set of panellists and more diverse discussions. This year, we traverse various facets of writing and a writer’s life to encapsulate the highs and lows, the creative process of the craft and the challenges for women writers in a world full of male authors.”
Apart from the spotlight on gender roles in literature, Advani said “this year we have special focus on food writing, a hugely popular niche among women today with eminent names from the fraternity as well the need for strong female protagonists in children's fiction - a complex genre to write and an even tougher one to sell”.
Book club founders take the stage
Talking about the other fun sessions, she said, “Moving away from writing, we have a special session with veteran writers and book club founders who talk about the reading culture of Bengaluru and share observations on the city's milieu. We've also got a workshop on the art of storytelling to encourage aspiring and budding writers to deep dive into the process.”
The workshop on the Art of Storytelling, hosted by Aparna Athreya, has a collection of stories to unveil. Athreya, who runs the Kid and Parent Foundation in Bangalore, is excited about the upcoming session. She said, “This year's women writer's festival is exciting because it attempts to bring the whole community together in celebration of the written word. Like a bird that takes to flight, the festival brings together writers, thinkers, storytellers and doers who give wings to words.”
When words, India’s biggest authors, writers, bloggers come together in one platform, the show should absolutely not be missed.
Female protagonists & lots
Talking about the fest, author Kiran Manral said, "At the SheThePeople Women Writers' Fest, our aim has always been to encourage conversations around issues that women writers face to offer a non judgemental, symbiotic, nurturing space for these issues to be discussed.”
She further added, “At the Women Writers' Fest Bangalore edition for 2018, we have in store fierce discussions on gender and how it drives narrative while chronicling strong women, the need for strong female protagonists in children's writing, how women authors need to shout louder if they must be heard in a gender inequitable space that remains to be heavily skewed towards the men. These discussions, and more, are what we hope will initiate and provoke conversations, not just at the fest but well beyond it."
