Indian Tennis player Ankita Raina moved to the final round of the current Australian Open qualifiers after securing a three-set win over Katarina Zavatska, world no. 118.

Raina overcame a second-set lapse to win 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in the second round of women's singles qualifiers that was held against Ukrainian Zavatska. The final round qualifier's second round lasted for two hours and twenty minutes.

This is Raina's sixth attempt to come out victorious through the singles main draw of a Grand Slam. If things turn in her favour, she is now a step behind from creating history. Only two women from India- Sania Mirza and Nirupama Vaidyanathan have competed in the women's singles main draw of a Grand Slam.

Sania Mirza competed in the singles category in 2012 while Nirupama Vaidyanathan reached the second round of the Australian Open in 1998.

Ankita Raina And Her Achievements

Grand Slam main draw is scheduled to begin in Melbourne from February 8. Raina is currently the top-ranked Indian women singles tennis player who has in past failed in her attempts to get past her first-round tie in the previous year's Australian Open qualifiers. The 28-year-old has been a star-performer at various international and national events. She has one WTA 12 k doubles win in her credit along with gold medals at Asian Games. Last month, Tennis player, Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina reached her career-high 117th doubles ranking by winning the doubles title at the $100 TFK women’s event in Dubai held in December.
