All you need to know about the new 2000 rupee note

Say hello to your new note - the 2000 rupee tender. The government's move to junk Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes has everyone refreshing their wallets with the new magenta note aside of the old 100 rupee currency. The new 2,000 rupee note, said the Reserve Bank of India in a statement, will include several features like a see-through register with the denominational numeral 2,000 which can be seen when the note is held up against light.

Here's all you need to know about the 2000 rupee note.

  • The amount i.e 2000 is written on the right, Mahatma Gandhi is on the left of the note.

  • The prominent part of the currency note has दो हज़ार रुपय  written on top- centre.

  • The note is magenta or deep pink, which ever you want to call it.

  • It measures 166 x 66 mm, slightly smaller than the ₹1,000 denomination which was about 177 x 73 mm

  • It has a motif of Mangalyaan, celebrating India's success with the Mars Mission

  • It has the Swacch Bharat slogan, pushing India's biggest campaign to clean India through what's the most commonly used medium - i.e money

  • The security thread with inscriptions  ‘भारत’ that also used to exist in earlier notes have a colour shift - it changes from green to blue when the note is tilted.

  • New notes are friendly for the visually-impaired. The raised print of Mahatma Gandhi's portrait, the Ashoka Pillar emblem, bleed lines and identity marks are useful.

  • There will also be a latent image with the denominational numeral 2,000, which can be seen when the bank note is held at a 45 degree angle at the eye level.
