New Update
Jessica Jones Season 3

To all Marvel’s Jessica Jones’s fans, here’s some interesting news to look forward to for the sole female-fronted series’ second season. Jessica Jones, which premiered last November on Netflix, starring Krysten Ritter in the lead role, will have more girl power as the executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg promised. The 2nd season will feature all 13 episodes directed by women, reported Variety.

As per Variety TV critic Maureen Ryan, Rosenberg announced the news during her panel for the “Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment” conference at the University of Southern California's journalism school on Friday. "Nothing makes me more proud and emotional and excited," Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter wrote in a now deleted response on Twitter.

Earlier in June, Ritter expressed her feelings for working with female showrunners and being surrounded by strong, powerful women with IndieWire.

“I love working with women because I’ve always been a girl’s girl. I’ve always gravitated towards amazing, strong, powerful women because I want to pick their brain and have them around me,” she explained. “I like to be vulnerable and raw, and I just feel more comfortable in those conversations with women. I’m especially glad ‘Jessica’ has a female showrunner. And Melissa has such integrity about the character and being a woman. It could have gone either way.”

According to a new report, the all-ladies-behind-the-camera-crew will be focusing on playing up the gender card to its fullest potential. Rosenberg even confirmed that the 2nd season of the superhero show is a motive-driven series to increase the number of female directors — to which Marvel totally agreed with, she noted. Seeing a growth of women directors these days, Rosenberg and her fellow producers are all set to give priorities to women first, and male directors later in the pre-production process.

Finn Jones also congratulated the Marvel team.

"Yes! More women directors please. Proud our Netflix/Marvel family are yet again leading the way!" he wrote.

The first season had 9 directors. Of them, 3 were women: S. J. Clarkson, Rosemary Rodriguez and Uta Briesewitz. If things get sorted according to the plan, then Season 2 will start as soon as the first season of “The Defenders”, which will also feature Ritter, gets wrapped up.

Not a first approach in the industry, Ava DuVernay’s “Queen Sugar,” which airs on OWN, also had only female directors during its debut season.
