Yashaswini Bags Gold In ISSF Junior Shooting World Championship
Pistol shooter Yashaswini Singh Deswal clinched gold at the women’s 10m air pistol event in the ISSF Junior World Championship rifle/pistol in Suhl, Germany, on Sunday, June 25. With this, India bagged the second position in the medals tally.
The 20-year-old, who hails from Chandigarh, bagged the gold after showcasing a stellar performance, by firing 235.9 points, scripting a world record. Woori Kim of Korea, who hit 231.8, came second and the third spot was won by Giulia Campostrini with 212.1 points.
Yashaswini topped the qualifying round, having two points ahead of the second placed qualifier. She had a calm start where she nailed all the eight-women finalists, and achieved a world record equalling a final score of 235.9.
She led India to gain a gold along with a silver and one bronze. China tops the list till now.
This is not the first time Yashaswini has brought glory to India. Earlier, in 2016, she brought won a silver in the 10m air pistol event at the junior world cup at Suhl, Germany.
Among others who made India proud was Anish Bhanwala who also won gold in the Junior Men’s 25m Standard Pistol competition, creating another world record score of 579 on Saturday, June 24. His achievement has helped India bag the Team Silver in the event and rank in the second position in the overall standings.
