WWC 2017 Has Record-Breaking Viewership In India and England

Do you know how many Indian cricket aficionados watched Women's Cricket World Cup final? ET reported that Hotstar, the leading over-the-top (OTT) player, recorded a peak concurrency of 1.9 million simultaneous viewers for the final of the ICC WWC 2017.

It also mentions that the viewership reached its zenith during the 48th over when India needed 11 runs to win off 12 balls. Maximum viewers were from states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharasthra.

The final match between India and England also gained a lot of momentum on social media with #WWC17Final being one of the top trends for two days.

Record-breaking viewership in UK

According to the viewing figures, a whopping 1.1 million people in UK tuned into Sky Sports to watch the match. Interestingly, the number is 400,000 more than those tuned into watch the Champions Trophy final between India and Pakistan last month.

The 1.1 million figure is three times more than the number of people that watched the final day of England's victory over South Africa in the first Test of the series at Lord's, according to The Times.

Infact, a report in UK's Mirror highlights that the match held on Sunday attracted the biggest audience till now.

The ICC had also recently revealed that the global audience for group matches was between 50 and 80 percent higher than the last World Cup.

It is being speculated that the colossal global audience of the match will make it the most-watched women's cricket match of all time worldwide.

This augment in viewership for the match is a milestone achievement in itself and a turning point for women's cricket. We hope more and more young girls envisage a bright future for themselves in this sport.
