One can draw a lot of parallels between an Indian woman and a boat. Apart from getting into troubled waters frequently, both of them navigate through various problems that exist in their lives to reach their destination and reclaim their identity. The IIMT University in Meerut's Ganga Nagar entered the Limca Book Of World Records by using 5,000 paper boats to make a women's empowerment logo.

A total of 5,000 students of five colleges and schools were roped in to make this event a grand success. Speaking to TOI, Deepa Sharma, pro-VC, IIMT University, said, "As many as 5,000 students and teachers of IIMT Academy, IIMT University, Guru Nanak Girls' Inter College and Saraswati Shishu Mandir came together to make this record a success. First, the women empowerment logo was drawn on the floor and the paper boats made by the students were kept ready near the logo for the kids to place them inside the sketch."

The students used an area of 120 square feet to make the logo. After its completion, many students were found taking selfies. The logo was made to mark the auspicious occasion of International Happiness Day.

The idea was to celebrate women's empowerment as it can bring a lot of happiness in the lives of people

On 8th March, a group of women from Thrissur set to make a world record by drawing caricatures of 60 renowned women on a 12-metre shirt. The caricatures included sketches of Arundhati Roy, Medha Patakar, K Ajitha among others. A shirt, and not a sari, was chosen to remind men that women's safety isn't just an issue concerning women. It must involve contribution of men also."

It is wonderful to see conscientious Indians taking up some great initiatives to promote women's empowerment with innovation, creativity and the power of art. Real change will, however, come only when Indians resolve to give women their due.
