Authorities started re-investigating, e after a former friend of hers told them about how a man she had wrongly accused was jailed. Police found discrepancies within her allegations, while reviewing the four investigations of the incidents that Beale said she went through.

One of the men, Mahad Cassim was jailed for 7 years. He said that the false allegation has had a serious impact on him.

“One of my goals is to be a successful businessman, to have a nice family and be happy. I am working on the happiness - I have a long way to go,” he said.

The police spent 6,400 hours investigating her claims at a cost of at least 250,000 pounds. The judge who found her guilty said that Beale obviously enjoyed being seen as a victim.

About her allegations, the judge said, “They each began impulsively, but what is particularly chilling is the manner in which you persisted in making allegations, which you knew were untrue, even to the extent of committing and repeating perjury.”

The judge also said that her false allegations will be widely publicised. And that they are likely to have the perverse impact of increasing the likelihood of guilty men going free.

“Cases such as this bring a real risk that a woman who has been raped or sexually assaulted may not complain to the police for fear of not being believed.”

Women who falsely claim rape make it that much harder for the women who actually suffer rape. It becomes much harder for them to get people to believe them.

At the Women Writers' Fest, hosted by SheThePeople.TV, Anu Aga said "Don’t make gender an issue when you don’t get something. If you are not promoted, don’t make it necessarily a gender issue. There are rules and regulations, and you have to follow them. Don’t misuse the laws that are there to protect women."
