A Pakistani YouTuber had an apt response to a man who tried to cover her head with his scarf in the name of religion. Shaila Khan was interviewing commoners in Pakistan about the ongoing Palestine-Iran-Israel war when one of the interviewees said, "You are standing in front of me in an Islamic country but you have not worn a scarf," and proceeded to drape his scarf over her. Khan, in a nonchalant demeanour, clapped back at the young man's action saying, "Why does your religion begin and end with a scarf? It is my decision." The interaction then escalated as some onlookers also pitched in. The video has gone viral on social media across South Asia.

Shaila Khan boldly asserted her autonomy over her dressing choices and challenged the presumption that religious observance should dictate her behaviour. She also put the young man in his place for trying to impose his beliefs on her. She demanded to know why it is usually women who are expected to uphold the values of a religion.

Argument Over Dress Code

While speaking about current affairs on camera, a man chose to bring up the female interviewer's dress code instead of answering the question. Interviewer Shaila Khan slammed the man for draping his scarf over her without consent. While the man tried to justify that he considered her as a sister, Khan said, "No, we are not blood-related. I am not your sister."

Soon, an older woman joined in on the argument and defended Khan saying, "This was not the question she asked you. Whether she wants to cover her hair or not is her personal decision." Khan then asked the woman, "Why do men expect only women to uphold religion?" She then schooled the man who tried to dictate her choice of attire in the name of religion.

Khan told him, "There is a defect in your behaviour even though you went to a religious school." She further asserted that his action was "social harassment," and warned him that she would get him arrested. Despite the heated argument, the man stuck to his point. Moreover, he did not have any response to Khan's original question regarding the ongoing war.
