Military Mom Dressed As Mascot Surprises 8th Grader After Deployment
In this wholesome story, tears of joy and laughter filled the halls of the Oak Mill School of the US when a mother and son united. The heartfelt homecoming surprise by a military mom for her son unfolded most uniquely and cutely.
Major Grace Merry, a decorated Air Force pilot, returned home nine months earlier than her deployment. As her 8th grader son, Will, demanded she surprise him on return, Major Merry kept the wish of her son on the top. Her early deployment from services was the cherry on the cake as Will was not anticipating his mom to return home sooner.
Major Merry shared how at the time when she was leaving for the services, Will looked at her with his big glaring worried eyes and asked her just one thing, as she said: "All he asked for was a surprise when I came back. I knew I had to make it something truly unforgettable."
With the help of Will's school principal, Major Merry hatched a plan on Will's scheduled school photograph day with the school's Mascot 'Okaie The Oak'. Dressed as the Mascot outfit it was a special person to Will that he had no idea about. As a photographer snapped a shot, Will along with his friends was taking a leave when the Mascot tapped his shoulders.
Will politely gives a fist bump to the Mascot when the Mascot out of his usual character starts with a quick antic of posing a salute (like the military) before removing the hat and revealing the face. While teachers at the school knew about the homecoming surprise, Will was taken totally by surprise.
As the surprise unfolded the hallways of Oak Mill School erupted with cheers and hoots from teachers and students while the mother and son reunited with happy tears.
This heartwarming reunion of the mother and son resonated with many as it highlighted the sacrifices and dedication of military personnel with a tough life of living away from their families.
