UNICEF Ambassador Priyanka In South Africa To Raise Funds For Abused Kids
The Bollywood diva and her popular trench coat made a stunning appearance at the Met Gala 2017, and now Priyanka Chopra is spending time in South Africa, attending a fundraising event organized by UNICEF.
The global star is currently bonding with kids in the Zimbabwean capital and promoting UNICEF’s unique initiative — ‘End Violence against Children’ — as its Goodwill Ambassador. Her Instagram account is flooded with many such memorable pictures and heart-warming messages from the campaign.
The caption reads:
“It’s the end of a long day of travel from NYC to Harare but I’m not tired…. In fact, I’m energized, waiting for dawn to break so I can set out on the journey of discovery that these amazing women and men have laid out for me.”
PC wrote, “Meet Team @Unicef. Their passion and compassion is contagious and their hard work and dedication evident in everything I have just seen and heard in our meeting. We are here in Harare, Zimbabwe, on a field visit in the first part of my trip to Africa as part of our efforts to #EndViolence against Children,” Priyanka posted on Instagram while sharing a photograph with the UNICEF team.
She added, “I’m looking forward to tomorrow and the opportunity to meet the courageous young survivors, their amazing caregivers and the teams that wake up every day and try to make the world a better place… one child at a time. I want to take you all on this journey with me, real time, and I hope you will join me here on these pages to bring awareness to some very important issues. Like, share, comment… do something. This is so very close to my heart, and know that every action (big or small) counts. #ThisTimeForAfrica#PeaCeLoveHope #foreverychild”
Priyanka shared a happy picture with children who have survived sexual abuse. She posted:
Inaugurated on May 6, the campaign aims to bring together some of the biggest names from across the globe on one stage to spearhead care and protection of children and making them aware about the effects of violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
Priyanka (34) is also the first Indian actress to become the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2010.
She tweeted the Girl Rising video on her social media account:
Accolades apart, Priyanka is also into charity. She donates 10% of her earnings every year to support underprivileged children through her foundation – The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education.
“The visit of UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra to South Africa will highlight the challenges faced by children affected by violence. Her visit is providing UNICEF with a unique opportunity to profile our mandate and values that guide our daily work for every child in South Africa,” a statement from UNICEF read.
There will be a live auction to raise funds for the children and their protection purposes in South Africa.
Good luck Priyanka!
