This year’s Forbes annual list of the Most Powerful Women in the World features notable figures across various fields. Some are entrepreneurs; others are women heading big companies and politicians. Surprisingly, in a list where women like Indra Nooyi, Marissa Mayer, Janet Yellen and Sheryl Sandberg have been placed at high positions, the highest paid woman in corporate America is the Israel born CFO and President of Oracle, Safra Ada Catz, who ranked #24 on the list.

According to Find the Best research, Catz earned $44.3 million last year. Apart from being the the highest paid woman, Catz is also the the highest-paid CFO (male or female) in the country. The research also reveals that amongst over 200 public and private companies in the U.S. there are only 11,277 female executives, compared to 104,701 male executives.

The research reveals that in 2012, out of the five best paid Standard & Poor’s 500 Index companies, only 8% were women and if that isn’t disappointing enough, these women earned 18% less than men, according to Bloomberg.

The Forbes points out, that to be paid better, women don’t necessarily need to be CEOs, as many women who are not CEOs of their companies are one of the best paid and most powerful women in the country. Other such women are Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg, and Ralph Lauren’s COO Jackwyn L. Nemerov.  Conclusively, we should be looking at the C-suite positions on the whole than just concentrating on one position.
