Telangana Government Awards Land to PV Sindhu
The Telangana Government is issuing 1,000 square yards of land to India’s Olympic hero PV Sindhu. This is to honour PV Sindhu’s victory at the Rio Olympics 2016. The land allotted is in Shaikhpet village which is a little over 12 km away from Hyderabad district.
“The Government (of Telangana), after careful examination, hereby accepts the proposal of the District Collector, Hyderabad that two adjacent plots in Shaikpet village can be combined to carve out a 1,000 square yards plot to allot the same to Miss P V Sindhu, badminton player, for having won a silver medal in Rio Olympics, as a part of Government incentive,” the order said, as reported by Indian Express.
With this win, Sindhu has become the youngest Indian ever to win silver at the Olympics. Not just that the ace shuttler has also became the first Indian sportswoman to win silver in Badminton and reached the finals in Olympics. Even in the finals, Sindhu gave a tough competition to World No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain winning one out of three matches.
Right after her return, the state government awarded her Rs. five crores in cash and declared a residential plot on her name in Hyderabad.
But all the rewards and glory has not lulled Sindhu’s practice and game. After Olympics, she went straight to her training Academy at Pullela Gopichand Academy. She then won the China Open. And in the Hong Kong Open, she reached semis but lost in the finals against Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying.
Sindhu started 2017 by playing the Premier Badminton League with Chennai Smashers against Marin who was playing with Hyderabad Hunters on Tuesday. Sindhu lost against the world champion, Marin who won the marquee match 11-8 12-14 11-2. Sindhu has said she needs to get that world-class practice in, by playing against more top players. She also wasn’t fazed by her home crowd in Hyderabad, cheering Marin on, since she’s playing for the Hyderabad Hunters.
Now that’s sportswoman-like spirit!
