India is all set to host a major international event in November this year to promote boxing -- the World Women's Youth Boxing Championship.

The last big event that India hosted in the boxing category, was the Commonwealth Championships before the Commonwealth Games in 2010.  India did not host any event after that because of administrative tussles between the Indian Olympic Association and Boxing India in 2012.

With a new boxing federation appointed last year to take matters forward, India is initiating efforts to encourage boxers in the country by hosting more events like the Women's Youth World Boxing Championship.

"The World Youth Championships for women will be held in November. In fact, we will be striving to host at least one international tournament every year," Boxing Federation of India President Ajay Singh announced in a press conference, reported One India.

India hosted its last World Championship for women in 2006.

Besides the World Championship, the federation is also pushing for the establishment of an International Boxing Academy which will most probably be headquartered in Delhi.  The Academy will be set up with support from AIBA and the world body signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sports Ministry in this regard on Wednesday.

"The International Boxing Academy could be set up in Delhi itself at the IG Stadium. We are working on it," Singh said.

It was declared in January that the national federation will carry out the promised Indian Boxing League (IBL), the dates for which are yet to be finalised.
