According to a senior police officer, awareness among women has increased due to police regularly sensitizing women in schools, colleges, and colonies. The officer said that women were not aware of the laws earlier, but have become coming forward to report the incidents happening against them.

Chhavi Methi, an activist with the Bhartiya Samajik Jagritik Sanghatan asked what was leading to the increase in crimes against women. Methi said, “We need to see what the reason is behind this. Are our men feeling insecure and why are they resorting to this?”

Methi further added that the increase in cases of crimes against women might be due to an increase in women reporting crimes committed against them. She said, “Maybe many women are coming forward to report such incidents. Methi added that it was good that women were speaking up and reporting crimes rather than cases going unreported.
