Answer: Just being a woman is God's gift that all of us must appreciate. The origin of a child is a mother, and is a woman. She shows a man what sharing, caring and loving is all about. That is the essence of a woman.

The words which made the world applaud her at the young age of 18. The woman who chose to chalk her own path and decide to adopt a girl child at the age of 22. The dauntless woman who fought with the court for 10 long years before she could adopt another girl child to add to her family. This woman of courage, Sushmita Sen, has paved her way to success on her own terms, which is no less of an inspiration to the girls and women of our nation.

"We are all unique and we are somehow always told by everyone else, this is the right age to get married, this is the right age to have children, this is the right age to retire, I just wanted to take life at my own clock because I believe everybody's unique"

More than the young girls, parents today should look up to these ideals which foster freewill and choice, rather than sticking to norms which do not have anything but "convention" as an explanation.

This year, Sen was invited to judge the Miss Universe pageant. As fate would have it, she travelled to the Philippines for the world renowned event, the place where she won the title herself in 1994. Interviewed by Jessica Soho, Sen reveals the hours before the Miss Universe finale, her inhibitions, what it means to be a single mother, and also what being a woman really means to her.
