Startups that will present & pitch at #StartUpIndia
Google Launchpad is a program initiated by Google to help app developers through the company’s technology, events, online resources, expertise and community necessary to launch and scale successful apps. They have come up with a 5 day mentorship program, for which they will be choosing 1 out of 5 startups that will be competing to pitch their ideas in front of audiences at the Government of India’s #StartupIndia, Standup India event happening in Delhi on January 16.
Google will award cloud credit worth USD 100,000 to the start-up that will qualify for its Launchpad Program. “We are delighted to carry forward the vision and align with ‘Start Up India Stand Up India’ efforts, with a special session focusing on early stage start-up s by providing them a platform to present their ideas to the world under our Launchpad Program,” Google South East Asia & India VP and MD Rajan Anandan said in a statement.
Competing companies will be covering all aspects of human life that need attention- education, health and sports. Let’s see what these participants have been working on:
Cardiac Design Labs:
Cardiovascular diseases are the number one reason for death in the world. There are about 64 million cardiac patients in the world with only about 4000 cardiologists. With changing lifestyle choices and habits, this way of end to life is becoming more and more common. Cardiac Design Labs has come up with wearable biomedical sensors, where an episode of cardiac activity can be detected instantly and real time analysis provided. This is going to be major shift in bridging the gap between the number of patients and availability of doctors.
Sbalabs Pvt. Ltd. – Jackboy Sense & Kalink:
We all know what carbon is. We all create and emit carbon everyday, probably without even realizing it. An average India emits about 1.19 tonnes of carbon every year, The Guardian reported. Basically, all of us around the world are creating more carbon than our trees can clean. Sbalabs has the solution to this. Maybe rocket science, but they are converting excess carbon on the atmosphere into printing inks, pigments and paints. Carbon, coming from our vehicles to even the fabrics that we wear is responsible for many diseases that seem common in today’s day and age, like asthma, bronchitis, heart attacks and strokes.
Guruji is changing the way teachers teach. Bringing in the element of student moods’ empathy, it works towards making any particular topic most comprehensible for students, which should be the ultimate objective of any education process. With its innovation in teaching practices, Guru-G has been able to improve student learning outcomes by 86 percent, thus making it more easy and fun for children. The best feature about this program is that the makers have practiced inclusivity by touching both private and government schools.
Training yourself for a particular sport of your interest ain’t a dream no more. With wearable technology of smartwatches and smartbands becoming a rising trend amongst innovators, SlamdunQ brings in an element of novelty with incorporating sports, helping our nation’s aspiring and budding players. It has already won two coveted prizes from Google Launchpad at Google Launchpad held in Bangalore recently. With the GOI’s rising focus on sports development in India, the possibility of this team to be the chosen one are quite high.
They work on the intersectionality between education, environment and civic problems, by analyzing patterns and needs based on data collected through ground research. Their USP is low-cost innovation, such that could help solve many problems born out of industrialization and modernization that the government finds itself grappling with, due to international regulations. They have also practiced inclusivity by involving children from both government and private schools in the innovation process. R&D includes water less urinals, weather stations, organic enzyme to convert food waste into compost, bins etc. They have managed to save 2 million litres of water and 100000 units of power by working in partnership with around 15000 school children from across the country.
