“Effective 28th August 2017, we are pulling off our programme, Pehredaar Piya Ki, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial is disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it. We (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows. We are grateful to all the artists, producers and fans of our shows and request you to graciously support the viewership of our newer ventures,” the channel said in a statement, Indian Express reported.

People called for the show to be taken off air for showing a nine-year-old crushing over a woman double his age. Not just that, the producers decided marrying the two characters played by Affan Khan and Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar off.

"I wanted Pehredaar Piya Ki to do well as a lot of hard work goes into launching a show. So many people including technicians will lose their jobs when the show shuts."- Suyyas Rai, Actor

People did not even appreciate the trailers of the show prior to its premiere and went on protesting against its first episode. It showed the young boy following the girl around, clicking her pictures without her knowledge. Apart from the glorification stalking as an act of expressing love the show also showed child marriage. There were many other problems surrounding it such as the prime time slot, sexist dialogues, etc.

Recently after an order from the Information and Broadcast Ministry, headed by Smriti Irani, the makers shifted it to a later time slot. They thought that they are now past the troubles and were planning a leap. But the channel took it off air.

“Yes. If the episode hasn’t aired then you know the news is true,” says actor Jiten Lalwani, who stars in the show to Hindustan Times.

Another actor, from the show, Suyyash Rai seems disappointed with this development. He says, “If this is happening, it shocks me. I was waiting to re-enter the show after the leap. Tejaswi is a close friend so I support her and work with her. I wanted the show to do well as a lot of hard work goes into launching a show. So many people including technicians will lose their jobs when the show shuts.”

This is after a long time of Television industry feeding its viewers with orthodox shows that the public got together to protest. And the channel’s calling off the program shows that they do listen to the public and take note of mistakes.
