Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur's Jersey Postponed, Again. Check Out New Release Date

Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur's upcoming film Jersey, which was coming to theatres this week, has been postponed yet again. Adapted from a Telugu film by the same name, the movie is about the journey of a batsman who fails to make it big and his comeback to the field, to fulfil a promise he has made to his son.

The Hindi remake has been directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also directed the 2019 original film starring Nani in the lead. Kapoor takes over the central role from Nani, whereas Thakur will play the role of his wife. It also stars Pankaj Kapur in an important role.

Jersey sees the rise and fall of a hot-headed yet promising cricketer named Arjun who doesn't make it to the national team. He marries his girlfriend who takes up the role of being the family's breadwinner, while Arjun cares for his son and tries his luck at getting a stable job.

When his son asks for a Team India jersey, the cash strapped father is disheartened at being unable to fulfil his wish. Going back to doing what he knows the best, Arjun starts playing cricket again so that he can get that jersey for his son. But will he succeed?

The film, produced by Allu Arjun, was scheduled to release theatrically on December 31, 2021, but was delayed due to the rise in the number of coronavirus cases. Announcing the delay, Kapoor had said, "In view of the current circumstances and new Covid-19 guidelines, we as a team, feel it is prudent to postpone the release of Jersey. We will see you as soon as we cam with our film in 2022."

Then, the new release date for the film was announced to be on April 14 this year. It was supposed to be a theatrical release. However, once again the release date of the sports drama has been shifted to next week. This decision to postpone was taken by the stakeholders yesterday night. It is being specualted that the decision was taken to avoid a box office clash with the highly anticipated KGF: Chapter 2 starring Yash and Raveena Tandon, and Vijay's Beast, both of which are releasing on April 14.
