Grey's Anatomy started airing back in 2005 as a medical drama with everything dramatic happening in the lives of the doctors in the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Actors like Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Sandra Oh and Katherine Heigl were all supporting cast in the series initially. Meredith Grey was the centre of attention for all plot lines and she drove the series for a long time with the help of very interesting and progressive subplots with the huge cast of the show.

Ellen Pompeo has shared the announcement that she will be leaving the show as a regular cast member which she was for the last 17 years and will be returning back for brief cameos in future episodes. Pompeo took to Instagram to write a heartfelt farewell message.
She wrote, "I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons! Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!
I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude XoE 🙏🏼❤️"
The show is going off for a winter break and the last episode aired has shown that Meredith Grey decided to relocate to Chicago. The next episode will be aired in February again and continue with the rest of the cast. Pompeo assures her fans that she will come back to the show but won't be seen as regularly as before. The fans are not ready to say goodbye to their favourite character and the name of the show being after her surname, people find it unreasonable to continue airing without her. A viewer of the show commented on Pompeo's post saying, "End the show. I bn a rider from the beginning, but the show is nothing without Meredith. Doesn't matter who they add, it doesn't distract from the fact the main character isn't there. It should end and wrap everyone's stories up. Plus, ya'll burnt the house down? Another main character?"
The show has seen lots of ups and downs with main leads dropping out of the show with brutal deaths or abrupt ends in the subplots. And many fans have suggested that the show ends on a good note so that their favourite show can be remembered with a happy memory.
