In a virtual interview organised by SAI, the Indian shuttler responded to ANI saying that the top 1 to 10 players in the women's circuit is of the same standard, hence you cannot take it easy if one player is out of the game due to injury. On Tuesday, Carolina Marin, Spain's Olympic women's singles badminton champion said that she will be unable to participate in the Tokyo Olympics due to a knee injury.

Sindhu further added, "If you see, there are a couple of really really good players. So you can't take it easy, you can't say that since one player is not there it might be easy because everybody would want to give their 100 per cent and will be in full form."

The Indian shuttler also said that she has to keep working hard and cannot relax and take it easy. She also added that she has to work one step at a time, be focused and give her best.

A five-time European and three-time world champion Marin won Gold at the Rio Olympics 2016 beating PV Sindhu in the finals. The badminton player has said that she has torn her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and both meniscus in her left knee and will be undergoing surgery for the same, later this week.

Marin released a statement on social media that said, "After examinations during the weekend and the medical consultation, I confirm that I have torn the ACL and both meniscus on my left knee." The Olympian also added that she was very excited about the upcoming competition, but it won't be possible now.

In January this year, the player won the Thailand Open Women's singles, defeating Taiwan's Tai Tzu-Ying.
