She studied law, took to truck driving: Yogita Raghuvansh
She lays down the law as far as driving her lean mean machine is concerned. Yogita Raghuvansh studied to become a lawyer, but her current profession is truck driver. So how did she get around to getting behind the wheel of a track? Well, the mother of two undergraduate students had to earn her daily bread, and she discovered this was a constrictive way of doing it.
Her story is truly inspiring. In 1991, Yogita was married off to a man from Bhopal but it turned out to be an ill-fated marriage. Her in-laws lied to her about her husband’s occupation, that he was a High Court lawyer. After her husband died from a road accident, the gutsy lady despite her degrees in commerce and law took the highway to survive.
“If I had opted to be a junior to some lawyer and enter the legal profession, I would have got only a pittance for the many initial years. But I learnt that driving trucks meant instant wages,” Yogita explained to Business Insider.
To earn minimum wages for her family, the UP girl who grew up in Nandurbar, Maharashtra has been expertly steering a 14-wheeler truck with its 30-tonne-cargo for the last 16 years. What more, by 2013, she had already managed to drive more than 5 lakh kms. Nothing fazes her, not even driving a liquor consignment all the way from Bhopal to a Kerala State Beverages Corporation godown. Her aim is very clear, providing for her family, and that carries her through whatever obstacles she faces in this male dominated profession.
One of India’s most qualified woman turned truck driver – let’s draw some inspiration from her. Shall we?
