Top seed for the US Open Serena Williams knocked out Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2 6-3 on day eight of the 2016 US Open, entering the quarter finals and entering the record books as well. This was her 308th Grand Slam victory, and with this she has now more victories than anyone else in Grand Slam matches, beating Roger Federer’s earlier number.

“Wow, it’s really exciting. This is where it all started so it’s always so magical out here for me — 308 sounds pretty good,” Williams said of moving out of a tie with Swiss great Federer for most Grand Slam match wins, reported by TOI.

The match against the 52nd-ranked Yaroslava Shvedova turned out to be a breeze for Williams, who had won her first Grand Slam Match way back in 1998 at the Australian Open. She was sixteen then. Since then she has won 88 matches at the US Open, 86 at Wimbledon, 74 at the Australian Open, an 60 at the French Open, to total the 308 figure, as per Indian Express.

Serena can’t rest on her laurels though. She now is aiming for yet another milestone…that of winning the most Grand Slam Titles in the Open Era. Her road to that might just be easier since  one of the two players with a chance to topple her from the world number one spot in this tournament has bowed out as fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska was shocked by 18-year-old Croatian Ana Konjuh.
