She was India’s first female judge in the Supreme Court of India. She began her career in the lower judiciary in Kerala and later rose through the ranks to become a judge in the high court before being appointed to the apex court in 1989. For her community the rise of a Muslim female lawyer was inspirational and a powerful signal of success.
