Striker Rani Rampal has proven her mettle yet again. This time, Haryana’s Rampal has been chosen to lead India’s 18-member women’s hockey team during the European tour.
Starting from September 5, the fortnight-long series involves a series of matches with Netherlands. Both the teams a good mix of both young and experienced players. Indian women need to strike hard from the beginning as no major achievements have been recorded in past few months.
The Indian team's chief coach, Sjoerd Marijne, plans to try a new combination to prepare the team for the long games ahead. However, the Dutch experts want to build a team for a podium finish in the Eighth Women’s Asian Cup to be held in Japan from October 25 to November 5.
The 18-member team also has Savita (vice captain), Rajani Etimarpu (goalkeepers), Deep Grace Ekka, Gurjit Kaur, Navdeep Kaur, Sunita Lakra, Rashmita Minz (all defenders), Namita Toppo, Nikki Pradhan, Monika, Karishma Yadav, Lilima Minz, Neha Goyal (all midfieders), Rani Ramphal (captain), Poonam Rani, Vandana Katariya, Reena Khokhar, Lalremsiami.

The team will solely be focusing on playing better to put behind the memories of Hockey World League in Johannesburg, South Africa. The team led by Rani finished eighth and missed an automatic berth in the 2018 World Cup.
If the team gets a desired at the end of this tour it will boost their morale. They would be more confident for the Australian Hockey League, starting from September 28 to October 9.
