Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya is UN Women’s Advocate for Gender Equality in India
She is the daughter of one of the biggest superstar’s of India, and now a UN representative. Aishwarya Dhanush, Rajinikanth’s daughter, was Declared the UN Women’s Advocate for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in India on Monday. Lakshmi Puri, UN Assistant Secretary General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director made the appointment official. Not many know that apart from being a director, playback singer and classical dancer, Aishwarya is also an avid social worker, she has hosted many charitable events and worked closely with women empowering organizations.
“Aishwarya will help raise awareness about the UN Women’s core message of gender equality and women’s empowerment across India, boosting the organizations efforts to close the gender gap and achieve a more equal world — a Planet 50-50, by the year 2030,” a statement released by the organizers quoted during the event for the press.
Puri was quoted by Hindustan times as saying that the reason for them to appoint Aishwarya was her popularity which will help “inspire confidence in young women and girls across South India and beyond”.
Aishwarya’s name is the latest addition to the list of celebrity women women who have in the past gladly joined hands with the UN for women’s issues. Actor-director Farhan Akhtar, tennis ace Sania Mirza, British actor Emma Watson, Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman and Anne Hathaway and Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand are some of the prominent names.
When superstar Rajnikanth was asked how he felt about the appointment he said “proud and delighted” to see his daughter being associated with the UN, as reported by Hindustan times.
