PV Sindhu

PV Sindhu beats Sung Ji Hyun from Korea to set up India Open 2017 final date with Rio 2016 Olympics gold medallist Carolina Marin. Sindhu won two of the three games but not without a tough fight that her opponent Sung Ji Hyun offered towards the middle minutes of the third game. She later picked up points, by returning to her own and keeping a four to five-point lead over her Korean opponent.

There was no stopping Sindhu in this deciding game. Her father cheered on from the stands as his daughter sealed an early and long rally to open up a five-point lead over her Korean opponent in the start of the third game. Sindhu struggled a tad in the middle when the Korean made an aggressive comeback post the interval.

The three-game women’s singles semi-final was hard fought but the third round was paced and solid for Sindhu who recovered form after the 10th point in the third game. Although Sung Ji Hyun of Korea picked the second round, Sindhu strategically played the third to win. She will now play Rio 2016 Olympics gold medallist Carolina Marin on Sunday.

In the quarterfinals, Sung Ji Hyun beat defending champion Ratchanok Intanon while Sindhu thrashed fellow Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal's game. Both players won in straight games.
