Priyanka might help break western stereotypes with ‘Quantico’
Former Miss World and National Award-winning actress, Priyanka Chopra, who recently also kick-started her singing career; will now be seen in an American show ‘Quantico,’ where she plays an FBI agent. The show, which will air on ABC in the fall, features Priyanka as the main lead, who is accused of being involved in a terrorist attack. The three minute 48 seconds-long trailer of the show was recently shared by Priyanka on social media and has so far received positive reviews.
Unlike previous attempts by Indian actors to break into Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra’s role in ‘Quantico’ seems promising. It’s refreshing to see that she isn’t just the token brown person in the show but will be playing a multi-dimensional character with something to prove. Above all, after India has been reduced to a country of rape victims and uneducated, malnourished women, by the western media; Priyanka’s new role might also help in changing that.
While many critics are less than bowled-over by Priyanka’s acting in the trailer and her being named ‘Alex Parrish,’ despite being an Indian; other Indian celebrities have been praising the actress on Twitter. Arjun Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Sophie Chaudhary, among others, have taken to the microblogging site to express their excitement over the show. The audience too seems intrigued with both Priyanka and the show, as its trailer garnered 12 million views in less than 12 hours.
The show is being produced by Josh Safran, Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper and has been written by Josh Safran. Even though the FBI agent and police cop shows are pretty cliché when it comes to American TV shows, they are mostly successful. SheThePeople.TV hopes that Priyanka sees success with the show and helps break some, if not all, stereotypes about Indian women.
