Princess of Parallel cinema, Tannishtha Chatterjee spoke to SheThePeople recently about the role of Pop culture in changing the mindsets of people. She told us why "Pop is what creates the mass culture" and she is very convincing! She also tell us how she chooses her movies.

Chatterjee, recently hit the news when she walked out of a comedy show she attended as part of her movie promotion. She was offended by the racist jokes being made upon her skin colour throughout the show. She walked away mid-show and later wrote an open letter on Facebook sharing her experience on the sets of the comedy show.

She said, "Even considering that dark skin is a joke comes from that very deep prejudice. I tried to explain why this is not personal and it is a larger issue about what our mindset is and why cracking jokes about deep biases in our society is irresponsible."

Tannishtha Chatterjee has many critically acclaimed movies to her name. Not just in Indian cinema but overseas as well. She won accolades for her recent movie Parched, directed by Leena Yadav. She has also played lead roles in Angry Indian Goddesses, Gulab Gang, Bhopal: Prayer for Rain and other such movies which won her, even more, fame and name across the film fraternity. Considered to be one of the most international of Indian actors, Tannishtha has also starred in a number of international movies alongside some big Hollywood names like Anne Hathway in Anna Karenina, Nicole Kidman in Lion and even Bret Lee in the movie UnIndian. Chatterjee is also a trained singer and has sung for a couple of movies.
