Poonam Mahajan Replaces Anurag Thakur As BJP’s Youth Wing Chief

Poonam Mahajan has now became the head of party’s youth wing Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha, BJP President (for second time) Amit Shah announced on Thursday. She replaced Anurag Thakur.

The decision was made after BJP’s results in the second phase of the Maharashtra civic polls. Shah also announced new chiefs for four other party wings -- SC, ST, OBC and Kisaan morchas.

The first time Lok Sabha MP, Mahajan (36), took over Thakur’s place after his over six-year reign. The daughter of former BJP leader Pramod Mahajan was considered the best choice for the position amid the crisis Anurag Thakur is facing. The Supreme Court on Thursday said the BCCI chief “appears to have prima facie committed perjury” and might land in jail if perjury is proved.

Mahajan is currently a Lok Sabha member from Mumbai North-Central. She is currently the national secretary of the BJP.

In 2014, Mahajan defeated two-time MP Priya Dutt of the Congress by a margin of 1.86 lakh votes.

Vinod Sonkar, a Lok Sabha member from Kaushambi, Ramvichar Netam, a Rajya Sabha member from Chattisgarh, Virendra Singh ‘Mast’ and former MP Dara Singh Chauhan were named as new presidents of party’s SC, ST, Kisan and OBC wings respectively.
