On a high: PV Sindhu bags massive 50 Cr deal with Sports Management Company

The silver medal at Rio this year has worked wonders for P V Sindhu. She has recently cracked a three-year deal with sports management company Baseline, which could be worth as Rs 50 crore, and it is believed to be the highest ever any non-cricket player has ever signed in for, as per a TOI report.

The Hyderabad-based badminton player, has been showered with cash rewards, many new endorsement deals plus never-ending events where she is bestowed with honours.

Tuhin Mishra, managing director and co-founder of Baseline, told TOI, "Her soaring popularity has attracted the attention of so many companies. In the next three years, we will work to maximise her value. Even after achieving stupendous success, her humility and the value she brings to women power is remarkable," said Mishra.

Baseline set off to sign for Sindhu's brand profiling, licensing and endorsements.  Of 16 companies who are willing to work with Sindhu and hope to get her to endorse their products, she has only finalised nine, while a wide range of companies that have approached her are still in queue. "We have finalised deals with financial institutions, women-centric brands etc. At this stage I cannot disclose the complete details," Mishra added.

Like her coach, Pullela Gopichand, who had rejected a Cola brand endorsement, Sindhu is keen to endorse products which will not mislead youth. "Another important aspect is that she will allocate very limited time for commercials. Her practice time will not be affected," Mishra said.

Apart from a certain amount of guarantee money upfront every year and from the endorsements, when asked about exactly how much Sindhu would earn, Mishra said, "I can't give a figure now but given the response that we are getting and the sponsors we have on board, Sindhu's will be the best deal that a non-cricket star can get."

Sindhu has pulled out of the next week's Japan Open Super Series as well as the Korea Open Super Series starting September 27.
